Located between Turnberry and Girvan, Clachan Wood designs and produces finely crafted bespoke furniture that combines traditional craftsmanship with modern precision. Led by Stuart Clachan, the workshop offers a highly personal, design-led approach, working closely with clients to create furniture of lasting quality, tailored precisely to both space and lifestyle.
From one-off statement pieces to furniture engineered for challenging or unique interiors, every commission is carefully considered from concept through to completion. Alongside hand-finishing and traditional joinery, advanced CNC machining allows for exceptional accuracy, repeatable quality, and refined detailing — enabling complex forms and contemporary designs that elevate each piece beyond the ordinary.
We champion the use of windblown Scottish native hardwoods wherever possible, responsibly sourced and sawn within South Ayrshire, then carefully dried and prepared in our workshop. This local, sustainable approach ensures each piece carries both integrity and a strong sense of place.
Start your project
Starting a bespoke furniture project with Clachan Wood is simple and relaxed. Every piece begins with a conversation, where we take the time to understand your ideas and explore what will work best for your space.
We can meet in person where possible, or work just as effectively from drawings, photographs, emails, and phone calls — whatever suits you. You don’t need a fully formed brief to get started, and any information you can provide — style, size, materials, or how the piece will be used — helps guide the process. If the new piece should complement existing furniture, a few photographs are particularly helpful.
You’re also welcome to visit the workshop to see the range of hardwoods available and discuss which might be most suitable for your piece.
Once a design has been agreed — considering function, form, and finish — a 50% deposit is taken and work begins. Where helpful, computer-generated visuals can be prepared to give a clear sense of scale and appearance. Timescales vary depending on the size and complexity of the project, typically ranging from a few weeks to a few months. Each piece is made with care and attention, and the result is well worth the wait.
If detailed drawings are required, a small design fee may be charged. This is deducted from the overall cost if the project goes ahead.
As a small workshop, we work on a limited number of projects at a time, allowing us to give each piece the care and attention it deserves.

At Clachan Wood, we create handcrafted furniture that blends traditional woodworking with precision CNC technology. We began our journey working exclusively with locally sourced hardwoods such as oak, ash and beech. Today, we combine these materials with carefully selected premium plywood’s and solid timber accents to produce stunning fitted furniture that’s as functional as it is timeless.
Free standing furniture
Clachan Wood produces handcrafted free standing furniture using locally sourced Scottish hardwoods; oak, ash, sycamore, elm and beech.
From small items to large pieces of furniture, our style is fairly contemporary and where possible we use the natural shapes and patterns of the grain as a feature.
